The mild flavour, creamy texture, versatility and convenience of an avocado means it's a perfect food to use when helping children to try for the first time and learn to enjoy different foods.

For children aged one to three years
Most of the recipes here require little or no cooking and may be prepared with children's involvement.
Green Cube Salad
(4 small serves)
Mix together: 1 avocado peeled, deseeded and diced (1cm cubes), 1 small tomato diced, 2 hard boiled eggs diced, 4 tablespoons cold cooked rice and squeeze of lemon or lime juice.
Toasted Green Eggy fingers
(Serves 2 - 4 )
Toast 4 slices of wholemeal bread.
Mix together till smooth: 2 hardboiled eggs (shell removed and mashed), 1 avocado (skin and peel removed, mashed), 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise. Spread 2 slices of toast with 4 tablespoon of the avocado/egg mixture on each slice. Top with the other slice of toast and cut into three fingers. Delicious as a snack, breakfast or lunch.
Green Froth Shake
(6 serves)
Blend together: 600 ml milk, 4 tablespoons plain yoghurt, honey (optional), ½ avocado (deseeded, peeled and roughly chopped) and one or two other fruits e.g. 1 banana, handful of washed strawberries or frozen blueberries.
