As Mother's day approaches I sit to eat breakfast with my four year old after dropping his big brother at school. Angus and I share a fruit platter and I delight in some avocado on toasted sourdough – fresh ground pepper – delightful. Recently I found a new bakery and their sourdough is sensational - I am in a sourdough and avocado mood (I am not ashamed to admit it has been a mood that has lasted a few weeks now, and doesn't look to be leaving soon). I top it off with my morning coffee and it is a very good start to the day.
Angus and I talk and I tell him I am thinking about Mother's Day and what Nanna and I might do for Mother's Day. I tell him it is a treat day for all the Mummys and Nannas of the world.
I start to think about what the day could be like and allow myself to daydream just a little. My Mum is one of the most amazing ladies I have ever met and doing anything with Mum is always fulfilling. I imagine us indulging in a seafood platter at one of my favourite restaurants, with a nice sparkling wine and maybe a movie in Gold Class. I can also picture a full day spa – a day of total luxury, relaxation and hours of soothing massage. And what could be better than the freedom of shopping to my hearts content without the children in tow?
Trying on clothes in a dressing room and taking a little longer than two minutes without being asked once, "Can we go now?" Imagine choosing an outfit where you had time to decide and you didn't just buy something saying, "That'll do" as you whisk it off the rack and search for your credit card somewhere down the bottom of your bag. Mum and I could enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea and we could certainly make a day of it.
All that sounds fantastic and I would be more than happy with any of those ideas and then Angus brings me back to my happy reality. He eats his last grape and he says, "Nanna can come and share our fruit platter and maybe we can watch Lion King for a special treat." He then says, "Daddy can make you special toast and avocado and I will help him cut it all up.
Daddy and George can do all your jobs and I will sit with you and Nanna and keep you company." So for all my dreaming, my beautiful son is spot on. What I truly want is quality time with my boys, my Mum, my family and I know that whatever comes my way will be fabulous. I will sleep in, relax and delight in the wonders and the blessings that I have already been given.
Happy Mother's Day!
