When we start to feel the winter chill in the air it immediately inspires images of 'winter warmer' recipes, such as slow cooker meals. Their wonderful aromas and flavours help us feel cosy and comfortable in the cooler winter weather. It is a time for hot food rather than cold, and it might surprise you in your search for winter food recipes that these might also include cooking with avocados.

As Mother's day approaches I sit to eat breakfast with my four year old after dropping his big brother at school. Angus and I share a fruit platter and I delight in some avocado on toasted sourdough – fresh ground pepper – delightful. Recently I found a new bakery and their sourdough is sensational - I am in a sourdough and avocado mood (I am not ashamed to admit it has been a mood that has lasted a few weeks now, and doesn't look to be leaving soon). I top it off with my morning coffee and it is a very good start to the day.

International Women’s day is a time for females across the globe to put issues and concerns that span both developed and non-developed countries into the public eye. There are so many factors that can affect the health and well-being of a woman but also many aspects that we can celebrate. Since 1908, women’s advocates have fought long and hard for political and social equality. There are also issues of public health that are directly affecting women and need greater awareness. Having a day in the year designated for this purpose is a great tool for raising this awareness and creating cause for change, as has been the case over the last 100 years of International Women’s Day celebrations.
